Communication & Relationship Problems among Troubled Teens

If you are the parent of a troubled teen that is struggling with a communication or relationship problem, you are not alone. Many adolescents in our society have trouble effectively communicating, which leads to a number of issues in their lives, including relationship issues. At Cedar Ridge Academy, we are a therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens that addresses all of the issues facing teenagers today, including communication and relationship problems. Please give us a call with any questions or concerns at 866-471-6629.

Kids in the adolescent stage typically have more problems with communication and relationships than at any other stage in life. As we know, communication is far more than just talking. The tone of voice, hand gestures, body language, and eye contact all are components of communication. Teenagers often struggle to understand that these matter just as much as the actual words being spoken, which leads to a number of issues in their relationships. It is important that these adolescents learn the importance of effective communication as soon as possible.

Effective Communication Tips for parents of troubled teens:

  • Take time out of your day to listen to what your son or daughter is doing. Make sure you listen actively and set an example of how to communicate effectively.
  • Talk WITH your son or daughter, not at him or her.
  • Avoid too many ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions. Ask questions that will require in-depth answers
  • Offer them a chance to participate in activities that can improve their communication skills, such as sports.
  • Utilize every opportunity to talk with your child, such as car rides.

Cedar Ridge Academy: Improving Family relationships through Communication

At Cedar Ridge Academy, we believe that we are more than your average therapeutic boarding school. We believe that our unique combination of therapy programs that we offer can be help troubled teens from all walks of life. Exercise can have a profound impact on the well-being of teenagers, which is why we offer physically active programs such as our karate program.

Staying physically active can give an adolescent a clear head, which can enable him to begin to communicate effectively with his or her family, improving their relationship immensely.

Giving Teens the Opportunity to Make Their Own Choices

Many troubled teens aren’t allowed the amount of freedom they need to effectively learn how to make decisions on their own, which causes a number of problems in their lives. The best way for an adolescent boy or girl to learn about mistakes is to make their own mistakes. This prepares them for the inevitable failures they are going to face in the future and teaches them how to make adjustments in life. At Cedar Ridge Academy, our therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens has been effective in helping our students learn how to effectively make good decisions on their own.

In our society today, many parents do not allow their teenage sons or daughters to think on their own, preventing them from developing properly. It is important that parents treat their children as individuals, giving them an opportunity to make their own choices. By experiencing small failures early in life, it helps prepare them immensely to adequately handle the future failures they are going to experience. Otherwise, if a child is brought up to not own responsibility for any decision-making, and never experiences any type of individual thought, then they will not be prepared for adult life whatsoever. Cedar Ridge Academy is committed to helping its students learn effective decision-making skills.

Cedar Ridge Academy Enables Teenagers to make their own decisions

At Cedar Ridge Academy, we understand the importance of teaching our youth how to make positive choices on their own. That is why our unique combination of therapy programs helps our students. Much of our therapy is centered on physical activity, which helps improve the student’s self-esteem and confidence. This is critical for decision-making, as confidence is one of the most important aspects of making effective, positive decisions. Our karate therapy program helps to foster an atmosphere of respect amongst our students, in which students encourage one another to make healthy choices. Our academic program here at Cedar Ridge Academy is also outstanding, enabling our student to excel in the classroom.
