Teens that suffer from learning difficulties are often times misunderstood. These teens may have a low self-image due to peers, family member, and sometimes even teachers referring to their disability as “stupidity.” These teens will often times hear vulgar insults and people name calling. The extremely offensive derogatory slang term “retarded” is a prevalent slur often times hurled at those who have a difficult time learning.
Cedar Ridge is here to assist teens who currently endure academic and learning difficulties every day...
Cedar Ridge is a premier therapeutic boarding school for both troubled boys and troubled girls. Learning Disorders – Teens Difficulties in Expressing or Receiving Information
Many troubled teens today struggle to express and receive information because of a learning disorder. Students that have learning disabilities suffer from neurological-based processing problems that prevent them from properly mastering certain learning skills. Though a learning disorder is a completely separate issue from A.D.H.D., approximately thirty to fifty percent of adolescent boys and girls with a learning disorder also suffer from A.D.H.D. Therefore it is important to address both issues. At Cedar Ridge Academy, we are a therapeutic boarding school for troubled teenage boys and girls that address these issues, among others.
Most of the boys and girls suffering from a learning disability simply haven’t received the necessary individual attention they need in order to succeed in the classroom. There are a number of different struggles that come with a learning disorder. These include problems getting information to the brain (input problem), visual or auditory input problems, inability to sequence or organize information, memory problems, difficulty getting information out of the brain (output problem), etc. Unfortunately, many parents fail to recognize learning disorders in their children, causing them to struggle mightily in the classroom. Many adolescents suffering from learning disorders feel as if they are not smart enough to succeed when in reality they just need extra help in grasping certain concepts. This feeling of failure can often lead to behavioral problems. It is crucial to the well-being of your troubled son or daughter that you seek out help for your child as soon as possible.
