What is Emotional Abuse?
Emotional, or psychological abuse, is defined as "any act including confinement, isolation, verbal assault, humiliation, intimidation, infantilization, or any other treatment which may diminish the sense of identity, dignity, and self-worth." While some parents may feel that "abuse" is classified as hitting, beating, starving, or harming physically in other ways, emotional abuse is, in fact, often far more harmful to a child. Emotional abuse harms the internal person, and it often manifests itself in outward, physical problems.
What Are The Signs Of Emotional Abuse in Teenagers?
1- Yelling or Swearing
2- Name Calling
3- Threats or Intimidation
4- Name calling or insults; mocking
5- Denial of the Abuse or Blaming the Victim
These and so many more are warnings of an unhealthy interaction with yourself or your teen, and need to be addressed immediately.
